Mountain Ash 12 Welsh Academicals 14
Saturday 16th March 2009, 2.30pm. Parc Dyffryn Pennar, Mountain Ash. The weather may not have been to the liking of the Academicals and their style of rugby, but the squalls of wind and rain did not prevent an entertaining and exciting spectacle as the Accies played against the Old Firm for the first time in many seasons. Despite being at the end of a long hard season, the Accies still managed to turn out its usual range of players from teenagers making their first appearances to more seasoned Accies, many travelling considerable distances to honour the fixture. The Welsh Academicals tries were scored by Dean Ronan and Owen Marshall, both converted by Rhys Truelove. Welsh Academicals: Aled Hopkins (Llanelli RFC), Dean Ronan (Maesteg RFC), Shaun Hopkins (Llanelli RFC), Llyr Griffiths (Llangefni RFC/Nuneaton RFC/Hartpury College), Wayne Simms (Tredegar RFC), Alex Luff (Glamorgan Wanderers RFC), Carl Kimber (Glamorgan Wanderers RFC), Mike Stubbs (Rhuthun RFC/Hartpury College) Robert James (Tredegar RFC), Rhys Truelove (Beddau RFC), Sam Hughes (Ystradgynlais RFC), Harri Morgan (Rhuthun RFC/Merthyr RFC/U Cardiff), Ross Lucas (Rhydyfelin RFC), Owen Marshall (Glamorgan Wanderers RFC), Ricky Williams (Swansea RFC), Owen Cotton (Pontypridd RFC), Daniel Horseman (Tredegar RFC).
