The Welsh Academicals took on a Llandovery College team full of confidence after some impressive scorelines in winning 10 of their previous 12 matches.

Both sides proved to be evenly matched in the forward exchanges as well as behind which saw the match ebb and flow from one half to the other. However the Accies soon took the lead with a try through prop Steffan Phillips, which was converted by Einan Scott.
Strong running and good support play from the visitors then culminated in an unconverted try from Fraser Robinson after 15 minutes, following good approach play by Einan and Tiernan Scott. At this stage the Accies appeared to be taking control of the game, but staunch defence from the College prevented any further Accies points in the first half and only the strong wind prevented Llandovery from closing the deficit with two penalty attempts. The half time scoreline of 0 - 12 to the invitation team left the game finely balanced.

With the elements behind them In the second half Llandovery stepped up a gear and pegged the Accies inside their 22 before driving over for a try from number 8 Rob Jones, which was converted by Owen Howe. Further sustained pressure by Llandovery resulted in a try by hooker and captain Gerrard Ellis to level the scores and allow Howe to give his team the lead with the successful conversion.

The Accies responded by making good ground down into Llandovery’s half and eventually gained a penalty following a late tackle. With only 7 minutes remaining the Accies opted to kick for touch and the driven lineout allowed David Griggs to peel away and cross for a try, which was converted by Gareth Thompson to secure a win for the Welsh Academicals by 19 points to 14.
