Welsh Academicals Annual Dinner

The prestigious event was again held at its traditional venue of the Cardiff and County Club on Friday the 2nd of December 2011.

The well attended evening enjoyed the 'guest' speaker and WRU President Dennis Gethin recalling events from his early playing days with the Accies through to his recent memories of Wales' Rugby World Cup campaign.

The evening was also honoured by the presence of three representatives from the Australian touring party in Cardiff for their international with Wales, all with a proud background of putting their country at the forefront of world rugby.

Matt Carroll, Deputy Chief Executive of the ARU, is also well rememdered as the General Manager of the hugely successful 2003 Rugby World Cup, for which he was awarded the Order of Australia Medal. He was accompanied by Team Manager Bob Egerton, full back in the Australia team that defeated England in the 1991 Rugby World Cup final, along with assistant coach Jim Williams who will have fond memories of Wales as a player with the Wallabies who lifted the World Cup at the adjacent Millennium Stadium in 1999.

Gerald Davies CBE (Welsh Academicals President), Jim Williams (ARU Assistant Coach), Bob Dyer (Welsh Academicals Chairman), Matt Carroll AM (ARU Deputy Chief Executive), Bob Egerton (ARU Team Manager), Dennis Gethin (WRU President), Denys Thomas (Welsh Academicals Honorary Secretary).
