In 1945 the Accies met a New Zealand Army XV at Abercynon
(Kiwi personnel wear uniform and stetsons).
Jack Matthews (holding ball) captained a team which included Maldwyn James and Billy Cleaver (standing), Glamorgan Wanderers stalwart Marsden Howlells and Gerry Blackmore (seated). Jimmy Austin (front left) is at the shoulder of Dr Peter Williams (father of J.P.R.) whose neighbour is Cardiff full back St John Rees.
